Singapore Cyber Security Awareness Day
Singapore’s 1st Cyber Security Awareness Day will be launched on 13 April 2011. While various awareness outreach efforts are carried out throughout the year, the Awareness Day will serve as a nation-wide call-to-action to take personal responsibility to “Go safe online”. For this inaugural launch, iDA is targeting to draw at least 200,000 users to “pledge” to change their passwords to a strong password on the Awareness Day.
Let’s do our part to protect the cyber space. Make an effort, change to a STRONG password for your online accounts now!
What is a STRONG password?
· A strong password is at least 8 characters in length, consisting of uppercase and lowercase alphabets, numbers, and symbols.
· Password should NOT be a dictionary word nor information that is related to you (eg. birthday, licence number plate, NRIC, phone number, etc).
· Example of a strong password: T5rk*23G, a weak password: apple22. You may also use the passphrase method to create a strong password. For example, the password “Mla3ca7d” is derived from the first characters of the phrase “Mary looks after 3 cats and 7 dogs”.
